‘Love, close to home’

‘Love, close to home’

A house-warming gift

For the new neighbors, across the street

A card

For a daughter - left on her dresser, as a surprise

A note

For a son – inside the new lunch box he carried to school

A kiss

On the forehead, inside the front-door, after a rough day at work

A phone call

To a close friend, who went separate ways – just after graduation

Respect

For the one at the senior center – and, the many stories he shares

A glass of tea

For the woman who delivers the mail, on the porch

Appreciation

For the kid next door – who nobody seems to understand

A lending ear

Toward the voice of dissent, inside city hall

Amends

With the co-worker, who interrupted a great train of thought

Gratitude

For the dad who stayed up all night, with a last-minute project

A warm jacket and smile

For the soul who stands out in the cold, with a cardboard sign

Recognition

For the one who picks up the trash – no stranger to hard work

Forgiveness

For a cousin, who lives just down the street

Kindness

For the one you are with, every hour of the day – yourself

Love, close to home

And change the world
