If you’re interested in learning more about herbs and holistic medicine from the comfort of your own home, spend some time reading about Dr. Low Dog and her institute, where she offers web-based courses.
From [her website]:
Dr. Low Dog’s extensive career in studying natural medicine began more than twenty-five years ago. She studied martial arts, midwifery, massage therapy, and was a highly respected herbalist, serving as President of the American Herbalist Guild and running a teaching clinic in Albuquerque, before going on to receive her Doctor of Medicine from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine.
Tieraona created the video based herbal medicine course “Foundations in Herbal Medicine” as a way to teach those who were unable to attend her teaching clinic in New Mexico. She also owned and operated a successful integrative medical clinic in Albuquerque prior to joining the faculty at the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ. She currently serves as the Director of the Fellowship, and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine.

From [The Botanical Medicine Institute]:
The Botanical Medicine Institute is a web-based school of herbal medicine created by Tieraona Low Dog, MD and located in the southwestern city of Tucson, Arizona USA. After selling her interest in the “Foundations in Herbal Medicine” course in 2002, Tieraona has been inundated with requests to update the material and start teaching classes again. With advances in technology, we are now proud to offer high quality, interactive, on-line courses designed and taught by Dr. Low Dog.
As an herbalist, physician and teacher – Tieraona’s vision is to provide a place where individuals can come together to explore the role of natural medicine within the broader context of health. Thus, we offer courses for the motivated learner, whether you are interested in improving your own health or are a medical professional wishing to expand your understanding of natural medicines.
While the school focuses on botanical medicine, relevant nutritional interventions, dietary supplements, complementary and conventional therapies are also discussed where appropriate. In other words, we teach herbal medicine within an integrated and holistic framework.
