Linus Pauling, PhD
Linus Pauling was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1954 and for Peace in 1962. He remains the only person who has ever achieved two unshared Nobel Prizes.
Dr. Pauling founded the field of “Orthomolecular Psychiatry” in 1968. He believed that mental illness could be treated by correcting imbalances and deficiencies of naturally occurring biochemical components in the brain - vitamins, minerals, and amino acids - as opposed to synthetic psychotropic medications.
He later broadened this concept, into what is now called ”Orthomolecular Medicine”. This form of medicine is based upon the prevention and treatment of disease by use of specific nutrients.
